While driving through my local area this past weekend, I couldn’t help but notice the pleasant weather. Here in Tennessee, it has been a dry summer and the heat overstayed its welcome like an awkward family relative.
Being the observant creature I am, something else caught my eye. The amount of yard sale signs displayed at the end of every street.
I could give you an entire lecture on the poor choices of sign location, material, font…but those lessons can be best learned in other ways. Instead, I thought I might ask you to reflect upon the “yard sale” with me. I am curious if there are any lessons to be learned for us there.
Go ahead and collect some of your thoughts…
Then read some of mine.
- I find it odd how certain people go to yard sales with no list. You go to a grocery store with a list, but not a yard sale. There are some who want the bargain and the experience more than they want the item they purchased.
- How odd…I go around looking for things I can sell…they go around looking for things they can buy.
- How instructive. The yard sale producer does little to attract many customers. Therefore, he makes many offers. Some yard sales have hundreds of items for sale. Smart idea…
- How would “many customers” plus “many offers” pan out for the yard sale producer.
- How would a neighborhood wide yard sale turn out?
- Oh…how about all the yard sales in the neighborhood put $25 for targeted ads?
Mmm the marketing never stops. Just something to think on. What did you come up with?
